How do I change my Satisfactory server's settings?

You change most of a Satisfactory server’s settings from inside the game: open the Server Manager, select your server and log in with the admin password. The one big exception is the player limit, which lives in Game.ini.

In the Server Manager

These are in your server’s settings and options in the Server Manager. There’s no file to edit, though some changes only apply once the game or the server restarts.

Setting What it does
Auto Pause Pauses the game while nobody’s connected. Switch it off if you’d rather the factory kept producing with everyone logged off.
Auto-Save on Player Disconnect Saves the game whenever a player leaves.
Autosave Interval Minutes between autosaves. The server saves every 5 minutes by default.
Server Restart Interval Despite the name, it’s the time of day the server restarts, once a day.
Network Quality Higher can improve load times and network performance for players, at the cost of the server’s frame rate. Change it a step at a time.
Send Gameplay Data Untick it to stop sending gameplay data to Coffee Stain.
Disable Seasonal Events Removes seasonal content such as FICSMAS. It needs a server restart to take effect.

The server’s name, the two passwords and the session it loads on start-up (Auto-Load Session Name) are in the same place. See How do I claim my Satisfactory server? for what the passwords do.

Your Game Panel can schedule restarts too. Use either that or Server Restart Interval, so the server isn’t restarted twice.

Raise the player limit

Satisfactory lets 4 players in by default. To raise it, set MaxPlayers in Game.ini:

  1. Download a backup from your Game Panel first.
  2. Stop your server from the Game Panel. Satisfactory writes its ini files as it shuts down, so changes made while it runs can be overwritten.
  3. In your Game Panel’s file manager, open FactoryGame/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/ or FactoryGame/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/, whichever your server has.
  4. Open Game.ini. If there isn’t one, create it.
  5. Add these two lines with your own number. If the file already has a [/Script/Engine.GameSession] line, put MaxPlayers under that one instead.
  6. Save the file and start your server.
[/Script/Engine.GameSession]
MaxPlayers=8

The same setting can also be given on the server’s start-up line as -ini:Game:[/Script/Engine.GameSession]:MaxPlayers=8. Use one or the other.

Warning

The official wiki warns the server runs best at the default of four, and a higher limit can hurt its stability and performance and use more resources. It puts the theoretical ceiling at 127, “but not practically”. More players usually means a bigger factory too, so check how much RAM you need before you go big.

Big game updates can overwrite ini files. After one, check MaxPlayers is still there. Don’t make the file read-only to protect it, though: the wiki says that causes problems with later patches.

If a change doesn’t stick

  • A Server Manager setting: check you’re logged in as admin. Players logged in with the player password can’t change settings.
  • Game.ini: make sure the server was stopped while you edited, the section line is spelt exactly as above, and the file is in the folder for your server’s system (LinuxServer or WindowsServer).

Tip

The AI assistant in your Game Panel can read your config files and logs. Ask it to check your Game.ini. It won’t change anything until you approve a card.

Support

Still stuck?

Ask the assistant in your Game Panel. It can read your server's console, logs and config to find what's wrong, and changes nothing until you approve it. For anything that needs a person, email us.
