How do I claim my Satisfactory server and make myself admin?

Updated 24 October 20263 min readSatisfactory server hosting

On this page

Satisfactory has no admin list and no config file for this. A new server starts unclaimed, and the first person to add it in the game’s Server Manager and claim it becomes its admin. So claim yours as soon as it’s built.

Claim the server

  1. Find your server’s address and port in your Game Panel.
  2. Start Satisfactory and open the Server Manager from the main menu.
  3. Add a server and enter the address and port.
  4. The game shows the server’s certificate and asks whether you trust it. It’s the server’s own self-signed certificate, so confirm it. The game remembers it for that server from then on.
  5. The server shows as unclaimed. Claim it: give it a name, then set an admin password.

You’re now the server’s admin. Next, create a new game on it, or upload a save you’ve already started. Until a game is loaded, the server is running but nobody can join it.

Warning

Until it’s claimed, anyone who adds your server’s address can claim it and set their own admin password. If someone beats you to it, reset the server as described under “Lost the admin password?” below.

What admin lets you do

The admin password guards the parts of the Server Manager that change the server for everyone. With it you can:

  • create a new game, or load a different save
  • upload saves from your PC, and download the server’s saves to carry on in single-player
  • change the server’s settings, from auto-pause to the player password
  • run server commands in the Server Manager’s Console tab

To make someone else an admin, give them the admin password. They select the server in their own Server Manager and log in with it.

One command worth knowing: server.SaveGame followed by a name saves the game there and then, for example server.SaveGame BeforeTheBigRebuild. Put the name in quote marks if it has spaces.

Keep the two passwords apart

Satisfactory has two passwords, and they do very different jobs:

  • Player password (Player Password Protection in the settings) is the one you hand to your crew. It’s off until you set it.
  • Admin password gives full control of the server.

Satisfactory won’t let them be the same. You can change the admin password in the server’s settings, but you can’t remove it. Changing it signs everyone out, so anyone else with admin needs the new one.

Tip

Pick a long admin password and keep it to the people you’d trust with your whole factory. Anyone who has it can load a different save, or delete yours.

Lost the admin password?

There’s no way to recover it. Instead, you reset the server’s settings file and claim the server again. Your saves are kept, but the reset also clears the server’s name, its player password, the session it loads on start-up and its certificate.

  1. Download a backup from your Game Panel first.
  2. Stop your server from the Game Panel.
  3. In your Game Panel’s file manager, find ServerSettings.7777.sav. The number is your server’s port, so yours may be different. It sits in the SaveGames folder, next to the server folder that holds your saves.
  4. Delete it, then start your server.
  5. Claim it again from the Server Manager, as above.
  6. Set the player password and the session to load on start-up again (see changing your server’s settings).

Because the certificate is new, everyone is asked to confirm it again the next time they connect.

If you can’t see ServerSettings.7777.sav in your Game Panel’s file manager, open a ticket.

Still stuck?

Ask the assistant in your Game Panel. It can read your server's console, logs and config to find what's wrong, and changes nothing until you approve it. For anything that needs a person, email us.
